"Ask Japan" Privacy Policy

GeoTechnologies, Inc.  (hereinafter referred to as "the Company", "we"or "us") handles the personal information of users obtained in connection with the use of "Ask Japan" (hereinafter referred to as "the Application") in accordance with the following "Ask Japan" Privacy Policy. However, in the event that there are matters to which users have individually agreed when using the Application (hereinafter referred to as "separate agreements"), such separate agreements shall take precedence over this Privacy Policy.

Article 1 (Handling of Personal Information)
1.  When a user downloads this application, the personal information entered at the application software download site specified in each of the following items will be managed by the operator specified in each of those items (hereinafter referred to as the "Site Operator"). Any questions or disputes concerning such personal information shall be resolved between the user and the Site Operator, and no claim or complaint shall be made to the Company, and even if the user suffers damage due to the disclosure or provision of such personal information to a third party by the Site Operator, the Company shall not be liable for any compensation. We shall not be liable for any damages incurred by users as a result of the disclosure or provision of such personal information by the Site Operator to third parties.

(2)  AppStore, a site operated by Apple for smartphones or tablets running the iOS: Apple Inc.

 

2.  With the exception of personal information entered on the application software download site as set forth in each item of the preceding section, the user agrees the users' personal information (Ppersonal Information" as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 1 of the "Act on the Protection of Personal Information") obtained by the Company in the course of using the Application shall be handled by the Company in accordance with the Company’s Privacy Policy and this "Ask Japan" Privacy Policy.  

 

3.  Notwithstanding the preceding Article 1.2, we may provide personal information to a third party without the user's consent in the following cases
(1)  When required by law
(2)  When it is necessary for the protection of a person's life, body, or property and it is difficult to obtain the user's consent
(3)  ​When it is especially necessary to improve public health or to promote the sound growth of children, and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person in question
(4)  When it is necessary to cooperate with a national agency, a local government, or an individual or entity entrusted by either a national agency or local government to execute affairs prescribed by law, and obtaining the consent of the person in question is likely to impede the execution of such affairs.
(5)  When disclosure of personal information is requested by a court of law, a public prosecutor's office, the police, or an agency with equivalent authority.

 

4.  ​Whether or not the user provides personal information to the Company is at the user's discretion. However, please understand that if the user does not provide personal information, we may not be able to provide the requested services or activities.

 

5.  The Application is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not intentionally collect personal information from users under the age of 13. In the unlikely event that we discover that we have collected personal information from a user under the age of 13 without the consent of a parent or guardian, we will delete such information immediately. If a user is aware of such a case, please contact our contact listed in Article 4.

Article 2 (Handling of User Information)
1.  In this Privacy Policy, the "User Information" means information pertaining to the identification of users and other information generated or accumulated in relation to users or terminals managed by users, and all information collected by us in accordance with this Article in this Application.

 

2.  The User Information includes the following information
(1)  Email address (excluding the email address specified in the next item)
(2)  E-mail address and icon information used by the user when logging in to external services
(3)  Identifiers (codes that identify users and advertising identifiers such as IDFA and AAID [Note 1], as well as identifiers that are irreversibly converted from email addresses or telephone numbers)
(4)  Browsing history information
(5)  Device information (including, but not limited to, SIM settings, currency, language, and country)
(6)  Question content posted or sent using this Application, and answers content to questions provided within this Application.
[Note 1
The advertising identifier is a code used to identify the user's mobile device when conducting targeted advertising, etc. The mobile device cannot be identified, but it can be used to identify the user's mobile device. It can identify the mobile device used, but cannot identify the individual user by itself.
IDFA (Identification for Advertisers): An identifier for the user's mobile device (iOS) issued by Apple Inc.
AAID (Advertising ID): An identifier for the user's mobile device (Android) issued by Google LLC.

 

3.  ​The purposes of our use of User Information are as follows
(1) ​ To provide the Application and services suitable for users within the App (including login and authentication, prevention of unauthorized use, and prevention and security of inappropriate content through monitoring and management of interactions between users)
(2)  To identify users
(3)  To distribute information regarding this Application, and to advertise or promote our or third parties' products and services (including sending email newsletters)
(4)  To respond to inquiries regarding this Application
(5)  To obtain statistical information, conduct market research, usage surveys, other analytical research, or create statistical information for the purpose of improving this Application
(6)  To maintain and improve this Application and to implement sales promotion plans such as various campaigns
(7)  To analyze User Information and distribute advertisements regarding products and services that meet the needs and interests of users
(8)  To plan, develop, review, and provide new products and services of the Company, our affiliated companies, or affiliated businesses.

 

4.  ​In order to prevent leakage, loss, or damage of User Information and to otherwise safely manage User Information, the Company shall take adequate security measures, including the establishment of rules for handling and implementation systems for safety management, and shall take appropriate measures to ensure that User Information is accurate and up-to-date as required for the achievement of the purpose of use, In the unlikely event of a problem, we will promptly take appropriate corrective measures. Specific details of the measures taken by the Company for the secure management of User Information are described in the Company’s Privacy Policy.

5.  ​We may outsource the handling of user information to outside parties within the scope of the purposes of use agreed upon in accordance with this Privacy Policy. In such cases, we will select a party that meets sufficient standards for the protection of personal information, enter into a contract with the party deemed appropriate, and exercise appropriate supervision over the party.​

 

6.  Users may request disclosure, notification of purpose of use, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, elimination, disclosure of records of provision to third parties, suspension of provision to third parties, etc. (hereinafter referred to as "disclosure, etc." under ) of personal information among User Information. In this case, we will promptly respond to the request in the manner designated by us. When requesting disclosure, etc., please make a request to our contact listed in Article 4.

 

7.  Settings that do not allow the collection of User Information are as follows
(1) IDFA and AAID identifiers can be changed to not allow us to acquire them by accessing the following site from the user's terminal.

Article 3 (Revision)
1.  We reserve the right to change the content of this Privacy Policy at any time.

 

2.  In the event of the preceding Article 3.1, we shall display a notice stating such changes on the official website managed by us or in other designated places. Such changes shall not be applied retroactively and shall take effect 14 days after such display. However, changes that address new features of the Application or are based on legal reasons shall take effect immediately.

 

3.  If the user continues to use this Application after the period specified in Article 3.1 and 3.2  has elapsed, or if the user does not cancel his/her registration within the period specified by us, the user shall be deemed to have accepted the said changes.​

Article 6 (Language)
This Privacy Policy is written in Japanese and translated into English and Traditional Chinese. The Japanese version is the original and the English and Traditional Chinese versions are for reference only. In the event of any discrepancy between these language versions, the Japanese version shall prevail.
